It’s always so hot in Bangkok.
There are so many nice malls in Bangkok and they are a great place to escape the heat during the day. This morning I decided to take a stroll down near Central Mall to grab an ice latte and do some people watching.
Central Mall had a very big shrine set up for the King. So many people were stopping to pray and pay respect.
For me the real surprise came in the evening when looking for dinner. I was walking down Sukhumvit Soi 55 in Thonglor neighborhood and this Mexican restaurant , Touche’ Hombre, seemed to call out to me.
Why would I want Mexican food when I am surrounded by so much good Thai food?
Turns out it was the Margaritas luring me in. Touche’ Hombre’s tequila selection was customized by Julio Bermejo of the legendary Tommy’s Mexican Restaurant in San Francisco.
For those of you who don’t know this about me… Julio was my instructor while I was earning my Masters Degree in Tequila. My good friend and surfing buddy, Brian Sigmond and I would always stop by Tommy’s after surfing cold Northern California waves. Julio and Brian’s parents had known each other a long time and Julio hadn’t seen Brian in forever. When Brian and I went there for my first time, Julio was so excited to see Brian and even more excited to tell us about his Masters and PhD programs in Tequila that he was revitalizing. Without hesitation we enrolled, and graduated top of the class!
I will definitely have to do a post about Tommy’s another time. The graduation party was legendary!!
Anyways, now you can understand how this Tequila Master randomly found his way to the one bar in Thailand that honors my Alma Matter in San Francisco.
Oh, the food was damn good too….
