The Frights are a great up and coming band hailing from San Diego, CA. On October 2, 2018 they played the Rock and Roll Hotel in Washington D.C. for a small crowd of about 200 people.
The show had an awesome vibe and the crowd was great! There was an added bonus that one of the members of the band was celebrating their birthday, so the band took a few minutes during one of the sets to sing Happy Birthday and celebrate with drinks and balloons.
If you have never listened to The Frights, you should definitely check them out. I recently used one of their tracks for one of my mini surf flicks titled FLOW DAZE, that can be found in the Post and Galley sections of this site. The Frights have a nice blend of surf jam sounds, 50’s doo-wop, and crunchy overdrives. I actually stumbled across them while listening to FIDLAR on Spotify. I really enjoy Spotify’s recommendations feature, and have discovered many new bands still cutting their teeth and playing small shows. The kind of shows where you can run into the band members at the bar and actually have drink or do some shots with them. Just beware, they will blame YOU for getting them drunk and they fuck up on stage. But hey….that’s rock and roll!
